VoiceThread

Hi Again!

This week, we were assigned to use the tool VoiceThread, which I was personally unaware of. I was automatically intrigued by the idea of people being able to use their voice when talking about topics because I feel that you can attach a voice to a person, as opposed to just reading a comment.

I enjoyed the fact that the site is not just limited to voice notes, but that you could also leave comments written or via video. This makes the process a lot more interactive, allowing for people to express themselves in more ways than they would be able to on blogs. I am not going to lie, when I first registered, I was very confused on how to leave a comment, so I found that the video by Teacher Challenges was very helpful in helping me through the process. I also like the idea that many different people from around the world can comment their opinions via VoiceThread, which you could possibly hear if they choose the audio component.

I like the idea that you are able to comment on various different topics and that VoiceThread has their own feed, which was very easy to navigate. I also enjoyed the idea that I can see where I have posted in my recent activity and that I am able to also view other people’s threads.

Honestly speaking, I would not add VoiceThread to my PLE, despite thinking that it is a cool tool. I find that I would be unaware how to implement the tool for a group or solo assignment. I feel that simply leaving comments is an easier option for me, especially because I do not overly like to hear my voice played back to me. However, I do see the value in having a tool where people do speak because other users would be able to hear the emotions that are easily lost via keyboard, in the person’s voice. If I am hearing an opinion about someone’s opinion about what is the most important Digital Right, they may speak with more passion and sway me easier. It also eliminates the chance of confusion of someone being rude or sarcastic because you would be able to hear it in their voice.

That being said, I still think the tool is really interesting and you should definitely take a look if this post has piqued your interest! I have embedded VoiceThread below and sincerely think you should at least give it a try!
